POPCON 2014 – my experience

Yeah, I know it is 3 days late to post this blog now… I have been busy with my-goddamn-why-it-is-so-fucking-hard- finance exam that rendered my head uncontrollably overheat after I couldn’t finish the 5 questions in the exam in time withing 3 hours. *siiiiiiigggghhhh*

okay, enough about this finance shit,  now, POPCON!

okay, POPCON is a convention where many artist gather to show off their skills and works. It is like a place where (if you’re an artist) you feel like a year old toddler who just learn how to hold a crayon in your hands. everyone there is good and their works are awesome!

I, with my friend arip, collaborated to make our apparel brand called “AI” and we sold it at Japanese station booth.

AI is our design brand, we sold fun things like stickers and pins.

GJUI 20

Yesterday I went to GJUI 20, located in a faraway land of Depok inside the huge ass campus of University of Indonesia. GJUI is a Yearly Japan exhibition.

I was at the Japanese Station booth the whole day, selling stuff.

And in this event, picculture.com exclusively worked together with franzeska edelyn and Japanese station, released a series of seifuku poster that we sold at Japanese station booth.

The poster was sold out! thank you!

in this event, Edelyn and Donna did a duet singing kinjirareta futari from AKB48

POPCON ASIA 2013 with Switch – My Experience

header

Last weekend, I went to Popcon asia 2013 for 3 days. This is an event dedicated for pop art culture held in JCC Jakarta, and was filled with popular artists from around the world like Mr. Kim Jung Gi and Mr. Kunkka.

This year event was larger than last year’s, with higher quality guests and merchandises.

There are many talented young artists from Indonesia, and my friends here also participated:

They sell posters, pins and their own artbooks.

Those are some badass drawings by the way… damn man, this event was filled with lots of badass artists whowill put your drawing skill to shame. lol.

One of my favorite creation in the event was probably this company who displayed some really realistic figurines I’d hope I can just steal the things.

Cool

If you’re hungry and don’t want to spend 70k rupiah on the most expensive nasi goreng you’ll ever seen in your life at the cafe outside the event, you can eat this popular chicken gyoza for 20k per 5 pieces

anyway, I was at POPCON for the Japanese Station booth with Switch

Switch is a part of Japanese Station navigator, they are 5 girls who will navigate your life to a better otaku path, lol.

Here at POPCON, they sell their first merchandises for the first time.

If you buy the Switch packs, which contains a T-shirt, photos, and a sticker, you can get a polaroid shot with one of the member.

I took some shots of the members, they’re kind enough to give their time to pose with me:

in the end of the event, they held an auction, and guest what, Kim Jung Gi’s drawing was sold for 5000USD

Overall, the event was fun, looking at those awesome artist made us remember we’re nothing but shitty kids with crayon in front of them.

Switch on!

Switch on! is a new web TV episode by Japanese station.com which is a web portal for anything Japanese. They write anything ranging from anime to idol

In Switch on!, you’ll be navigated by Switch, a 5-cute-girls-group who will show you the way to a better otaku path (lol)

These pictures are from their website not the actual photos.

And for those who bitchin’ about how producing photos are imitating 48 groups, dude, in Japan you can also Morning musume photopacks, Matsumoto Jun and all the johnny’s Jr photopacks, and even Enako photopacks, so these kinds of business are not limited to AKB’s, they exist before AKB48

So, Japanese station has released the first episode of Switch on! on youtube.

In this episode, they went to Japan Foundation in Jakarta to show you the library and how to wear a yukata.

me myself have worn a yukata before, and that was hard to wear for the first time, but that’s male yukata. Female yukata is much harder to wear rather than their male counterpart, the female one is longer and have to be folded in the waist to be worn properly.

i don’t know what the extra length is for, maybe it’s an extra space for boobs (i don’t know!) so even the P cup women still can wear yukata comfortably.. nah i just joking. find the answer in the video!
