POPCON 2014 – my experience

Yeah, I know it is 3 days late to post this blog now… I have been busy with my-goddamn-why-it-is-so-fucking-hard- finance exam that rendered my head uncontrollably overheat after I couldn’t finish the 5 questions in the exam in time withing 3 hours. *siiiiiiigggghhhh*

okay, enough about this finance shit,  now, POPCON!

okay, POPCON is a convention where many artist gather to show off their skills and works. It is like a place where (if you’re an artist) you feel like a year old toddler who just learn how to hold a crayon in your hands. everyone there is good and their works are awesome!

I, with my friend arip, collaborated to make our apparel brand called “AI” and we sold it at Japanese station booth.

IMG_1970-5-s

AI is our design brand, we sold fun things like stickers and pins.

You can see our facebook page here

speaking of Edelyn, yes, she is the official cosplayer of Reon comics again in this event

IMG_1967-3-s

the reon booth was exactly in front of Japanese station booth, so yeah, I could take a lot of pictures

IMG_1984-1-s

IMG_1973-8-s

Edelyn and other JS navi also brought up some performances on the stage

IMG_2025-41-s

and… that’s all folks! see you in another chance!

GJUI 20

Yesterday I went to GJUI 20, located in a faraway land of Depok inside the huge ass campus of University of Indonesia. GJUI is a Yearly Japan exhibition.

I was at the Japanese Station booth the whole day, selling stuff.

IMG_1824-9-s

And in this event, picculture.com exclusively worked together with franzeska edelyn and Japanese station, released a series of seifuku poster that we sold at Japanese station booth.

The poster was sold out! thank you!

in this event, Edelyn and Donna did a duet singing kinjirareta futari from AKB48

IMG_1868-52-s

I didn’t have time to shoot many photos since we lacked of staff, so I was running here and there to take care of things 😦

anyway, otsukaresama deshita!

Thank you to those who bought our posters!

Fashion is you – Japan Matsuri 2013

Hi there~ I have been so lazy updating this blog, one of the reason is that because I was busy travelling around Kalos region, trying to catch ’em all, to be the very best like no one ever was.

Image

which… i have not finished yet, still going around the frozen cavern at the time being, i don’t know how to catch haunter without killing it XD

so… last Saturday, there’s an event called “Fashion is You” by galleries lafayette, which is a fashion show for amateurs and non model.

I was there because Franzeska Edelyn and Marsha Indira from Kyorindays were participating in the event.

the categories were “cocktail time” for Edelyn and “Smokey rock” for Marsha, here are some photos:

Switch on!

Switch on! is a new web TV episode by Japanese station.com which is a web portal for anything Japanese. They write anything ranging from anime to idol

In Switch on!, you’ll be navigated by Switch, a 5-cute-girls-group who will show you the way to a better otaku path (lol)

14 22 4 5 2

These pictures are from their website not the actual photos.

And for those who bitchin’ about how producing photos are imitating 48 groups, dude, in Japan you can also Morning musume photopacks, Matsumoto Jun and all the johnny’s Jr photopacks, and even Enako photopacks, so these kinds of business are not limited to AKB’s, they exist before AKB48

So, Japanese station has released the first episode of Switch on! on youtube.

In this episode, they went to Japan Foundation in Jakarta to show you the library and how to wear a yukata.

me myself have worn a yukata before, and that was hard to wear for the first time, but that’s male yukata. Female yukata is much harder to wear rather than their male counterpart, the female one is longer and have to be folded in the waist to be worn properly.

i don’t know what the extra length is for, maybe it’s an extra space for boobs (i don’t know!) so even the P cup women still can wear yukata comfortably.. nah i just joking. find the answer in the video!

Japan – My experience

It’s been a while since i updated this blog, the thing is, i was kinda occupied by other things and simply didn’t have any idea to write a new post, but then i think i will try to share some of my experience in Japan in this post.

as you can see in my previous post, it’s full of photos.. in Japan, yes, exactly 1 month 4 days ago i came back to Indonesia after a 13 days trip to Japan. That was my second trip to Japan since 2003, so it had been 10 years since my first visit to Japan. so many have changed, some remained the same, here’s my experience in Japan:

Asakusa

IMG_7246

I arrived in Osaka, but then went to Tokyo by bus on that day, it was a tiring day lol, the bus wasn’t the nicest bus you’ll ever try for sure, meh, even a night bus to singapore from malaysia was better in my opinion. lol

In Tokyo, I stayed at Khaosan Original . My room was small, but the best thing about khaosan is its location, It’s 5 minutes walk to Kaminari mon and asakusa station, makes the place very convenient for tourist. There are many restaurants around there as well, you can choose from udon, ramen, chinese food, or maybe Burger king if you really want to. lol. (ah yes, may i remind you that a bucket of KFC here costs you around 5000 yen, i kid you not). Actually i found a really nice chinese food restaurant near Khaosan, unfortunately i forgot its name, but you can eat nice gyoza and japanese style fried rice there, and also the dry ramen was quite good.

Akihabara

IMG_7301

Akihabara, land of anime, manga, idol, and JAV. Yes, the holyland for Otaku, has everything you have dreamed of. From new released games to gunpla to JAV dvd, from 2nd hand AKB48 CD to 2nd hand pantsu .

Ah yes, it is also the place of the AKB48 theater, here it is:

IMG_7290

IMG_7355

The donquixote which AKB fans called as their holy place is actually a laaaaarge department store that sells anything ranging from funny clothes to sex toys. you can find many fun stuffs here.

okay, basically in akihabara, this is my place-to-visit recommendation:

1. Mandarake – a multi stories building full of toys and manga

2. AKB48 theater/cafe – even if you’re not a fan, it’s worth a visit, just to see the birthplace of the largest idol group in the world.

3. @Home cafe – 7 maid cafes in a building, nice food and service, expensive, but you are in Japan, man, visit a maid cafe!

4. Gundam cafe – the only place you can get Char’s business card.

5. AVstore – if you’re a healthy man, visit and see with your own eyes the things you have downloaded for all this time in its real form.

There are plenty of good food around akihabara as well, The Omusubi store near station sells really nice Omusubi, and Coco curry house offers you delicious curry.

Shibuya

IMG_7208

Shibuya is a crowded place, it is fun to see the legendary crossroads which often shown on Dramas. and that famous 109? it’s a small shopping store with so many brands sold there.

girls will definitely find it amusing. lol.

just to make you hungry:

hamburg at fujiya

Harajuku

IMG_7455

When you’re in Harajuku, you have to go to takeshita street. it’s a long street full of small shops, and schoolgirls (and boys)

IMG_7464

and here you can also find a tamadepa

IMG_7468

it’s a tamagotchi store! unfortunately they don’t sell english version of tamagotchi here.

Tokyo Disneyland and Disneysea

IMG_7819

My second visit in 10 years.

it was crowded! i think the most crowded place i ever see, here you can queue for 3 hours or more for an attraction. but it’s worth the wait.

it is also the place to burn you money if you’re a disney fans.

here are some photos which may motivate you to go there:

the legendary castle:

Osaka

IMG_7932

i went back to Osaka

from Tokyo disneyland by bus, Once i arrived in Osaka, i went straight to my hostel there which is Osaka Hana hostel.

It’s the best budget hotel i ever stayed in so far, you got nice bed, large bedroom, homey living room, Washing machines, dryer, and automatic toilet. lol

Osaka in my opinion is a better place than Tokyo, it feels like home.

when you’re in Osaka, make sure you visit Dotonbori street, shinsaibashi and sennichimae.

Dotonbori is kinda a red light district of osaka, lot’s of girls will talk to you to offer a drink in their bar.

I didn’t dare to try any of the offer, but i think it will be expensive. lol.

the most effective way to politely refuse their offer is to.. well.. talk in English, just a simple “sorry” will make them uninterested in you anymore.

Sennichimae in the other hand is a long long road where the NMB48 theater stands.

IMG_6990

Japan is a nice place to Visit. it’s expensive, but you can get so many experiences by visiting this land.

you won’t get lost here, just make sure you have google map with you. if you can speak Japanese, it will be easy to roam this land without getting lost.

oh yes, at Osaka hana hostel, they held a party every tuesday, so it is a good chance to get more friends from various country.

Last word for me, please bring extra money more than your first budget calculation, because you will need extra money.

Happy travelling!

Bijac no tanjoiwai

Image

Last Saturday, me went to an event called “Bijac no Tanjoiwai” which is literally translated as “Binus international Japan culture club’s anniversary” *correct me if i’m wrong*

so Binus is like one of the most famous university here, so mainstream and famous about it’s IT and DOTA maniac students. lol.

so in a university like this, there must be a lot of otaku, right? so this is their otaku club’s annual event.

As i arrived at the venue, i noticed that the only things indoor were the stage, and the game tournament. the rest of the booths were outside, my friends also opened their booth:

Image

they were selling their fanart goods, like pins and posters:

Image

i was there to watch Samurai blue performance at night, and was lucky enough to be able to take some photos:

Edelyn and Nia were getting ready for their performance with samurai blue

                                                                    the audience~

Anyway their performance was good~ i saw some wota were doing wotagei on the 2nd floor. lol

Otsukare sama deshita!

Jak-Japan Matsuri – The Opening

Today is the opening day of Jak-Japan Matsuri, an annual event by Japan Foundation in Indonesia to tighten the two nation’s relationship by exchanging and showcase culture from each country.

so after I arrived at the event site, i asked the security guy and he told me that the event is on the 4th floor. so i got on the elevator right away only to see packs of JKT48 zombies in front of the elevator on the fourth floor.

yes, the event is very crowded, full of JKT48 fans.

Image

So me and some of my friends went to the traditional Japanese Tea ceremony performance to try the original Japanese green tea… or maybe we want to try only because some pretty neechan were serving the tea to the audiences.

Image

yes, that short haired neechan

so while they explain about how to drink the tea, they served dorayaki to the audience

Image

now I know how it feels to be Doraemon :))

Image

so that pretty neechan served me and my friends, the tea actually was pretty good, it didn’t taste too bitter, it didn’t feel “heavy” when you drink it. it feels light and refreshing.

moreover because it was made by:

ImageImage

after that, we went inside to see the Sushi battle, which is a sushi making competition, and the fish was provided by the jury who was cutting a super ultra large TUNA… that was the first time i see people cutting up a fish that big.

Image

Image

look at those meat chunks…

Image

so the show continued and another beautiful neechan performed “hana wo saku” with her shamisen. And in this song CM video where many people sings parts of the song, AKB48 member, Nakayan (and another member who i missed to recognize) appears as one of the volunteer who sang the song.

Image

after that was the performance of JKT48. let me tell you, all the heads you see in the photo above were all JKT48 fans. well, mixed with some innocent Japanese who was obviously shocked to see what happened in front of their eyes, which i described as “some barbaric forever alone war cry” lol, kidding, it was the mix and chant that was so loud, so noisy and so out-of the place.

it was very disturbing that some of the Japanese standing next to me said that all of the fans were very “kimochi warui” or gross. lol, yes, and it was escalated quickly after they saw some people at the back do wotagei, in the middle of a ballroom of a famous hotel in Jakarta… shit dude

Image

so it was so chaotic and embarrassing until the Japanese next to me said something like

“kore wa kimoi na” “nandayo kono otaku ppoi na ugoki wa”

well, me and my cosplayer friend next to me in front of the TV monitor just acted as non-wota as possible :))

after the performance ended, i headed out and found that the sashimi was discounted at half price.

Image

not bad~ :))

well, let’s see how the closing event at Monas next week will be,

bonus shot: some JK are checking in to the hotel.
